Off-ice practice, with purpose
What are stickhandling balls used for?
Hockey stickhandling balls let you practice moving an object between your forehand and backhand away from the rink. Use them to work on close control, wide reaches and changes of direction. Changing the ball changes the challenge: a light ball suits quick movements, while a weighted ball adds resistance to controlled drills.
Balls roll differently from a puck on ice. Use them to add variety to your practice, alongside puck work and on-ice training.
Inside the 4-pack
Choose your training focus.
40 g · Quick touches
Swedish Speed Ball
The lightest ball in the set. Use it for short forehand-to-backhand touches and quick changes of direction, focusing on a soft touch and keeping the ball close.
516 g · Added resistance
Iron Weight Ball
The heaviest ball in the set adds resistance to your stickhandling movements. Use deliberate, controlled touches to work on handling a heavier training load.
117 g · Controlled movement
Puck Speed Ball — Blue
A middle-weight option for everyday stickhandling drills. Practice wide pulls, figure eights and transitions between narrow and wide movements while keeping the ball under control.
Black · Everyday stickhandling
Puck Speed Ball — Black
A regular Puck Speed Ball, just like the blue one. Use it for close-control touches, wide pulls and figure-eight drills during independent off-ice practice.
This is not a sensor ball and does not work with the Digital Stickhandling Trainer.

Three stickhandling drills to try.
- Close-control touches. Move a ball between your forehand and backhand in a small space in front of your body. Keep your touches smooth before increasing the pace.
- Wide pulls. Pull the ball from one side of your stance to the other, then bring it back under control. Focus on a controlled reach and return.
- Figure eights. Place two markers on a smooth surface and guide the ball around them in a figure-eight pattern. Change direction and repeat.
Choose a clear practice area and a smooth, level surface, such as a hockey training pad or synthetic ice. Start slowly when changing ball weights so you can maintain control.

Stickhandling ball FAQs.
Can I buy the Stickhandling Ball Set separately?
No. The Potent Hockey Stickhandling Ball Set is available only in bundles. Visit the Digital Stickhandling Trainer page or Speed Radar Gun page to explore current offers that include the balls.
What comes in the 4-pack?
The set contains one Swedish Speed Ball, one Iron Weight Ball and two regular Puck Speed Balls: one blue and one black. The black ball is not a sensor ball.
Do I need a digital trainer to use the balls?
No. All four balls are for regular, independent stickhandling practice. You do not need a Digital Stickhandling Trainer to use them.
Do these balls work with the Digital Stickhandling Trainer?
No. None of the balls in this 4-pack provide DST sensor scoring. The black and blue balls are regular Puck Speed Balls. For interactive DST training, use a compatible sensor puck or sensor ball designed for the trainer.
Which ball should I use for quick hands or resistance work?
Use the 40 g Swedish Speed Ball for quick-touch drills and the 516 g Iron Weight Ball when you want added resistance. The blue and black Puck Speed Balls are both options for everyday control drills.
Can stickhandling balls replace a hockey puck?
They offer a convenient way to practice away from the rink, but a rolling ball moves differently from a puck sliding on ice. Include both ball drills and puck practice in your training.
